Africa Wildlife Films has a growing library of film stock footage, time lapse sequences,
photographic stills and sound recordings. The stock footage is primarily recorded on
super 16 film, but we also have extensive infra red, digi beta, DV cam and a steadily growing HD library footage for
sale. Our stock footage library specializes in southern African mammals from meerkats
to lions and elephants. Our time lapse footage, recorded on super 16 film, 35 mm
digital and HD, specializes on weather, landscapes, insect metamorphosis and the flowers of Namaqualand.
Africa Wildlife Films is an independent company based in Cape Town, South Africa.
We specialize in producing, directing and filming blue chip wildlife documentaries
about the behaviour and ecology of the wildlife of Africa, including mammals, birds,
reptiles, insects and plant life. We also produce documentary films from other
genres, including pure science, culture, travel and archaeology.
Africa Wildlife Films has been commissioned to produce wildlife specials by National
Geographic Television, BBC - The Natural World, Discovery USA, ORF Universum and
Devillier Donegan Enterprises, and has established itself as a co-production partner
on a number of other productions. As producers, directors and camerapersons, Phil
and Lynne Richardson, the principal members of the company, have also filmed a wide
variety of wildlife sequences for external documentaries, commercials and feature
films.
The photographic stills library, with images dating back to the 1970’s, contains photo’s
from around the globe, but also specializes on the wildlife and people of southern Africa.
Our sound library, recorded on DAT, focuses on the mammals, insects and birds found in
our stock footage library and ambients recorded in their southern African habitats.
Africa Wildlife Films has a strong in-house scientific and general research base, and
our documents library boasts over 40 popular and scientific publications produced by
the research team.
The company owns a wide range of specialized HD, film (super 16), SD video (DVCam and infra red)
and stills (35mm and digital) equipment. We are also fully equipped for camping and filming from
vehicles in the bush. We have an experienced production team and an extensive network of contacts throughout Africa.
