Aardwolf, aardvark, Cape pangolin and their termite prey   Realm of the Woodcutters
An Africa Wildlife Films Production
Producers: Lynne and Philip Richardson
52 min
Plunging below the hard baked African soil, this story exposes the underworld of the termite, the smallest but most efficient woodcutter in Africa. Locked in an evolutionary battle that has raged for 50 million years, colonies of termites valiantly defend their subterranean castles against their fiercest and most ancient enemy - ants. And when the ants leave they have other enemies to contend with. The aardvark, Africa's animated earth mover and from whom no woodcutter nest is safe however deep underground; the aardwolf, not a digger, but from whose broad tongue no grass cutting termite is safe; and last, but not least, the pangolin or scaly anteater - an armour plated digger which is slow but relentless in its pursuit of miniature woodcutters.
